A medical doctor with the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, Niger State, is said to have caused the death of a sixteen-year-old Fatima Yusuf, who died after she was delivered of a baby.

The doctor whose name was not disclosed allegedly raped Fatima multiple times in the hospital while she was taking care of her sick mum who was on admission, and ended up impregnating her but denied he was responsible for the pregnancy, The Nation reports.

Consequently, Fatimah was said to have been sick with worry on account of the denial, and fell into depression which allegedly caused her death days after putting to bed.

The paper said the Emir of Bida, Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, had to intervene. and at the palace during interrogation, the accused doctor claimed he only hugged Fatima and rubbed his body against hers, but did not have any sexual intercourse with her.

It said at the instance of the emir, Federal Medical Centre set up  a committee to investigate the allegation, and has carried out an DNA test, which result is already enmeshed in controversy owing to alleged planned manipulation, a claim the hospital denied.

“We have to establish the accusation. Everything is at accusation level now. We have not done anything to the doctor because we are waiting for the result of the DNA test. After the result, we will know the step to take,” the hospital’s Head of Communication, Musa Ladan told The Nation.
