A cash officer of a new generation bank (name withheld), four police escorts, and a driver have been arrested in connection with the recent bullion van attack by armed robbers at Elemoso Village in Ondo East Local Government area of Ondo State.

The armed robbers who waited in a concealed position along the Ondo-Akure Expressway last Thursday and launched a surprise attacked carted away unspecified amount of money.

However, the custodians of the money as the time of the attack are now the prime suspects and have been arrested.

The suspects, according to the police, include the four police officers who were escorts of the bullion van, the two drivers of the vehicles and the cash officer of the bank attached to the van.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo, said, “Four men that escorted the bullion, the cash officer and the two drivers of the bullion van are already with us to help us in the investigation that is already ongoing.

“We will do everything possible to get into the root of the matter and as I am talking to you right now, the OC SARS (Officer in charge of the state Anti Robbery Squad ) have gone to Bolorunduro where the incident happened as part of the ongoing investigation.”

Ogodo also noted that the arrested officers had been found negligent and culpable in the incident.

He said the officers were on illegal duty by following the bullion van without formal booking.

It was said that the policemen, along with the drivers, fled without offering any resistance.
