The thirteen suspects were paraded before newsmen on Monday in Abuja at the headquarters of the Special Anti-robbery squad.

Yusuf Dahiru, who was the ring leader of the criminal gang, hinted that they carried out the operation with the view to make $30 million but it was not to be as the ransom was not paid.

Another of the suspect simply identified as Safilu, said their motive behind the abduction of Alhaji Umar was to negotiate for the release of their colleagues in detention and prisons across the country.

Safilu said, “I was called by the group to accompany them to Daura to kidnap the district head of the area but they told me our aim was to kidnap the royal father so that we can use him to negotiate for the release of some of their members arrested before and are still in the custody of security agencies. But I was surprised that after the kidnapping, they started demanding for ransom.”
