The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said Gov. Nyesom Wike is under siege in the hotel he is lodging in Benin, the Edo capital for today’s governorship election in the state.

Wike is the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship Election and like his All Progressives Congress, APC counterparts, Govs Abdullahi Ganduje and Hope Uzodinma he is the state to mobilize supports for his party.

But his camp are crying blue murder alleging that 300 police laid siege to the hotel Wike lodged while Ganduje and Uzodinma are given free rein.

“Three hundred police officers barricaded the hotel Gov. Nyesom Wike is lodging while Governor Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano State) and Hope Uzodinma (Imo State) are moving around Benin.

“We are going to hold the IG responsible should anything untoward happen to our governor. Rivers people will not just fold their hands if any harm befalls their governor,” Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communication, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, told newsmen.

In similar vein, the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Akawor Desmond said, “Recall that Governor Wike was appointed Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo governorship election. This is the same position Governor Ganduje of Kano State occupies for his party, the APC.

“Governor Ganduje and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State are all in Benin, Edo State carrying out their assignment for the APC without any molestation or intimidation.

“And in a breach of the pledge they made, security agencies have decided to harass and intimidate Governor Wike who has not done any wrong.”
