Late Tiamiyu’s mother speaks

Mother of slain footballer, Kazeem Tiamiyu, said the deceased was invariably assaulted by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The grieving woman recounted some of the nasty encounters the late Remo Stars defender and Assistant captain had with the officers of the marauding police unit when Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun and the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone II, Peter Ogunyonwu paid her a condolence visit.

“Two weeks before his death, my son complained that operatives of SARS usually surrounded his car. In fact, he called his father on many of these occasions.

“There was a certain day that his elder brother’s wife was delivered of a baby and he was at the hospital. Just as he went in, I was called that SARS operatives had surrounded his car. I rose and went there and on getting there, I met them.

“I called one of their bosses immediately. So, he told them to leave my son alone and they did,” the bereaved mother said.

The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being an internet fraudster and pushed onto the path of an oncoming vehicle by one officer simply identified as Oyato, meeting his death in the process.
