COVID-19: 10 A’Ibom pastors arrested for holding services

Not less than 10 pastors in Akwa Ibom State on Sunday were arrested following a raid on churches conducting services against the state government’s orders.

Governor Udom Emmanuel had on Thursday in a raft of measures to curtail coronavirus spread ordered total lockdown on the state including ban on congregational worship and gatherings of any kind.

The   state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) also toed the governor’s line barring churches not to hold services.

But on Sunday some defied the order and held services culminating in the police raiding the affected churches and arresting the pastors and seized vehicles at the grand zeros.

The recalcitrant pastors were said to be in custody at Eket Divisional police headquarters.

Recall that National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said five persons tested positive for coronavirus in the state.
