A Magistrates’ Court at Chediya-Zaria has ordered the arrest of 45 out of the 53 suspects of gay marriage for jumping bail.
The police had in April arraigned fifty three people mostly students, who were arrested in Zaria in Kaduna during a gay wedding.
Forty-three of the suspects, who were arrested on April 15 at Zaria Motel and charged to court were absent at the resumed hearing of the case on Monday.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Mannir Nasir, told the court that only eight out of the accused persons were present in the court. Nasir’s application for a bench warrant was granted by the Chief Magistrate Auwal Musa Aliyu.
The application did not go without being opposed.
Counsel to the accused persons, Kimi Livingstone Appah, objected to it, saying that his clients are living in far places and thought that their case was slated for afternoon.
