Yobe Govt says Schoolgirls are still missing

Contrary to its earlier announcement that the military rescued some students of  Government Girls Technical College in Dapchi abducted by Boko Haram since Monday night, the Yobe State Government on Thursday said the abducted girls are still in captivity.

The government had on Wednesday in a statement claimed the kidnapped girls, which numbers are yet to be ascertained were rescued by the military and were in the latter’s custody.

Contradicting itself, the government in another statement issued yesterday said it was misinformed by security agencies.

The statement reads in part: “We issued the statement on the basis of information provided by one of the security agencies that is involved in the fight against Boko Haram and which we had no reason to doubt.

“We have now established that the information we relied on to make the statement was not credible. The Yobe State Government apologises for that.”
