A worker with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Kaduna, Mrs Yemi Awolola, has landed in troubled waters following alleged torturing and sexually abusing her 14-year-old house help.
The victim’s identity is coached in secrecy because she is a minor.
She was living with her parents at Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camp in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna, and was handed over to Mrs Awolola following her promise to enrol her in school and take better care of her.
Fifteen months of living with the NNPC staff member was reportedly marked by maltreatment including sleeping in the toilet and drinking water from the loo.
Mrs Awolola and her family were alleged to have set fire to their victim’s private part and inserted lighter in it.
The alleged roughshod treatment of the poor girl landed her ‘madam’ at the state-owned Barau Dikko hospital while the Kaduna State Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba, said Mrs Awolola would face prosecution on three counts of child labour, violence against children as well as sexual violence.
