Report has emerged that suspected kidnap kingpin Hamisu Bala (aka Wadume) would have been charged with multiple crimes bordering on kidnapping and murder but for alleged schism between the police and the military authorities.
The pair have been locked in a battle after a commissioned officer led a gang of soldiers to kill some police officers, who had arrested Wadume and freed the suspect, sparking public outrage.
Consequently he was rearrested in Kano by police and has been singing canary in detention with investigation launched into his criminal activities revealing some security operatives were on his payroll and were helping him to cover his tracks.
The Nation reports that the military has been reluctant to release its officers and men allegedly involved in the attack to the police for trial.
The paper quoted a source as saying: “All the military needs to do is to hand over suspects to the police. The facts are clear. They are using the instrumentality of the panel to cause unnecessary delay. The question is: why is it taking them so long to investigate?”
