Unilag sex scandal: My accuser wanted me to give her N400,000, says Lecturer


Professor Segun Awonusi of English Department, University of Lagos (UNILAG), whom a female student of the institution accused of pestering her for sex in return for mark, has denied the claim.

Awonusi, whose semi-nude pictures taken in his office at the institution went viral after his accuser released it to an online tabloid, alleged the unidentified student of blackmailing him.

The embattled Prof alluded that the controversial pictures originated from him as he claimed that he took it with his phone adding that the phone he used to take himself in nudity had been missing.

He added that he didn’t know how the student came about the pictures, and had been using it to blackmail him, saying that she demanded N400, 000 from him before making the semi-nude pictures public.

The denial and defence of the former commissioner in Ogun state and also former Vice Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education, Igbesa, came as University of Lagos announced that it has commenced investigation into the matter.

In a statement released by the institution’s Communication Unit, Corporate Affairs Directorate, entitled: “University of Lagos Fact Finding Panel on the Allegation of Sexual Harassment Involving a Lecturer in the University: Call for Memoranda’’, it said that has set up a fact finding panel to investigate the allegation, adding that the move was in line with its zero tolerance for such incidents.
