Flood of uncontrollable tears was witnessed yesterday in Ubulu-unor junction in Ugwashi-uku metropolis of Delta state, when a tipper lorry crashed into a secondary school student who was riding motorcycle identified as Chuks Igbokwe, leaving him dead on the spot.
The driver of the tipper with the registration No: ANAMBRA AWK 140 XC (not the lorry pictured), according to an eyewitness account had veered off the major road as he was heading towards Isah Ogwasi-uku road on a high speed, smashed into the young motorcyclist and cut off his head while the back tyre ground it simultaneously.
Effort to save the 12-year-old boy by some good Samaritans who thronged the scene of the accident, proved abortive as the victim gave up the ghost before being taken to the hospital.
Sources close to the family of the deceased said that the boy was only on an errand to buy premium motor spirit popularly called petro from the NNPC mega station when the unexpected happened.
“The saddest aspect of the whole thing is that the little boy just came back from school where he has been in boarding house and his mother decided to cook Indomie noodle for him to eat before he will go and buy the petrol, unfortunately, they never knew that would be that last she will see her son.”
Reacting on the incident, police public relations officer in the state, DSP celestina Kalu Confirmed that the driver who committed the crime reported himself to the police, adding that he is currently being detained for further investigation
