TINUBU’S MUM, ABIBATU MAGAJI DIES AT 96

Former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji is dead. She died on Saturday evening in her Ikeja home in Lagos.

Aged 96, she was until her death, the President, Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men.

In a statement announcing her death, the family said that she would be buried today at the Ikoyi Vaults and Gardens in Lagos, at 11 a.m on Sunday.

During her life time she won several awards for her acknowledged role in women empowerment, and was among five eminent women honoured at the 2002 National Women Conference held in Lagos.

More recently, on November 24, 2012, she was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Human Letters (D.H.L) Honoris Causa by Ahmadu Bello University at a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the institution, during which the former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Theophilus were also honoured.

Alhaja Mogaji was honoured with no fewer than 10 titles by various traditional rulers and interest groups across the nation. Some of such titles include Iya Adinni of Yaya Abatan Central Mosque, Ogba-Agege, Yeye Oba of Ikirun Land, Yeye Oba of Kweme Kingdom, Badagry, Yeye Oba of Osolu Kingdom, Yeye Oba of Lagos to mention but a few.
