A teenager killed friend over tyre at Oyedeji Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.

16-year-old Lasis Abass (pictured), an apprentice to a vulcaniser, and 25-year-old John Iyanu were said to be good friends, and between them there was much good-natured banter.

But on November 1, tempers frayed over a minor issue surrounding the deflation of one of the tyres of a motorcycle belonging John Iyanu, which led to his death.

Reports have it that they got into a fight at about 2.15p.m at the village market where the Lasis was working as a vulcaniser, after the deceased discovered that the tyre of the motorcycle he had earlier taken to him was flat.

Though Lasis denied knowing anything about how the tyre got deflated, John was said to have refused to accept his friend’s explanation and a fight ensued.

After several blows to Lasis’ face and body, it was said that he reached out to one of his working tools, a screw driver and hit John on the chest with it, and there was a gush of blood.

Attempts to save John’s life were futile as he died on the way to the hospital.

The case was reported at Iyana Offa Police Station in Lagelu and Lasis was promptly arrested before he was transferred to SCID, Iyaganku.
