Teenage student sent to remand home for raping 9-yr-old girl

An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a16-year-old student, Gilbert Tunde, who allegedly defiled a nine-year-old girl, to correctional facility for proper counseling.

Tunde, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge.

The teenager, however, pleaded not guilty of the offences and the magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Ogunbowale, granted him N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded at Adigbe Abeokuta, a correctional home for children who committed such offences.

She also ordered that the duplicate file be sent to the office of the Directorate for Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till April 5 for the legal advice.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sargent Ajaga Agboko, had told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on February10, at 11:30pm, at Smith Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.

He said that the teenager unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a nine-year-old girl.
Agboko said that the girl was alone in the house when the defendant came to the house and took advantage of the situation and defiled her.

He said that the offences committed are punishable under Sections137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
