An inspector of police, Sunday Japheth has been taken into custody by his employer, for ripping into President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice president Yemi Osinbajo and the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu.

Japheth had on August 9 taken to his Facebook page in series of posts on its timeline to express his fury at alleged mistreatment of police officers fighting insurgency in Northeast in terms of their allowance not being paid as at when due, blaming the presidency and Adamu for it.

The inspector also said his colleagues would on August 14 protest over the issue seeking support of the media.

He equally lamented the killings of policemen by soldiers in reference to the Taraba incident saying the army were no match for MOPOL.

In one of his posts, Japheth wrote, “This is Nigeria, with a president who want to fight corruption and tackle insecurities, with the vice who claimed to be a man of God without truth, with many elected senators, with IGP that we think things will change, its a pity for them those that lead this country, I pray that this demonstration that is going to happen on 14 /8 in maiduguri, yobe, adamawa and other places that mobile police on special duty are going to hold for their allowances be the beginning of something in this great country lead by evil men,we are inviting all the media to be there for us, this people call their self leaders are all aware that this money use to be in some people joint account to get interest, then after 3-4 month they pay, no one will say he don’t know what is happening that this money is not paid, God will come down himself to help Nigerian if really this is buhari handling this country this way,i better die for truth then to be ,seeing nonsense.”

However, the posts which drew the attention of the police authorities, have landed the inspector in troubled waters.

Japheth is attached to 8 Police Mobile Squadron Jos, but transferred to Yobe on special duty and has been arrested over his remarks, a statement released by Police spokesman in Yobe, ASP Abdulmalik Abdulhafiz, said.

The statement reads in part: “The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command has been drawn to a write-up made by one Ap/No210138 Inspr. Sunday U. Japhet of Police Mobile Force number 8 squadron Jos, who is on special duty at Dapchi Bursari L.G.A via his Facebook account.

“The Yobe State Command wishes to inform the general public that only the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has the right to communicate to the public through any medium about all issues affecting the Command.

“It is a baseless lies that the police high command deposited the allowance of the personnel in some secret accounts in order to share the acquired interest.

“It is on record that the Federal Government is operating Treasury Single Account (TSA) that made it impossible to divert any fund. “Furthermore, all payments are directly paid into the Private Bank Account of all personnel from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

“Lastly, the Inspector General of Police has been working assiduously to ensure the timely payment of allowances of personnel nationwide.”
