Street Trading: 6 LAGESC officers stabbed in Ikoyi bloody clash

Six officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) were stabbed and injured by the staff and touts working around the Federal High Court, Ikoyi.

The clash is coming barely a week after an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LSMA) was stoned to death.

According to New Telegraph, the officers were attacked in the process of arresting street traders and confiscate goods and items that allegedly displayed and sell on the walkways in front of the court along Queens Drive in Ikoyi in compliance with the governor’s directive on street trading.

The report said some staff of the Federal High Court, who were known to patronise the street traders, allegedly prevented the officers from arresting the traders leading to a bloody clash between both with touts combining with the court staff to attack their victims.

The Deputy Corps Marshal in Charge of Operations Mr. Ganiu Kazeem, told the paper that some of the suspects have been arrested.
