UNDERGRADUATE SLUMPS TO DEATH WHILE WATCHING BARCA/BAYERN MATCH AS COLLEAGUES BEAT JOURNALIST COVERING PROTEST

A student of University of Ibadan on Wednesday evening at the campus slumped to death while watching the second semi-final match of the UEFA Champions League between Barcelona FC and Bayern Munich.

The deceased simply identified as Mayowa Alaran was in the common room of Independent Hall to watch the match on TV alongside several other students and football fans when his death occurred after he slumped and was rushed to Jaja, the school health centre where he eventually died.

However, his colleagues on Thursday morning took to the streets in Ibadan to protest the late arrival of ambulance to convey Mayowa to UCH before he died in Jaja.

The protesters who were thoroughly consumed with seething rage, blocked the Mokola-Oojo Road and vandalized properties.

The news of their protest reached journalists who rushed down to cover it. But they were not well treated.

Eyewitness told OrijoReporter that the students refused to allow journalists to use camera or record the protest.

Former Oyo State Bureau Chief of defunct Nigerian Compass Newspaper, Sola Adeyemo(pictured) who now works for New Telegraph was severely beaten after he made attempts to snap pictures with his mobile phone.
