Senator Ali Wakil who slumped to death on Saturday at his Gwarimpa residence in Abuja, died of suspected heart attack, according to a family source.
Wakili, who was the senator representing Bauchi South in the Senate, and was until his death, Chairman, Committee on Poverty Alleviation in the upper chamber, slumped at around 11.00am, and died before he could get emergency treatment at the hospital near his residence where he was rushed to.
The remains of the 58 year-old was subsequently committed to mother earth at the Gudu District Cemetary in Abuja after Islamic rites were performed at the National Mosque with his colleagues in the Senate and other politicians in attendance.
The deceased was a Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS before he retired into politics.
He is the second senator to die in the 8th Senate. The first was a former governor of Osun State, Isiaka Adeleke, who died last year.
