The Senate has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to establish factories across all the local government areas in the country in order to reduce poverty in the land.
The senate gave this advice on Wednesday at the plenary when adopting a motion Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu North) moved, and entitled, ‘Bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots in Nigeria to nip in the bud the seeds of a looming violent revolution.’
The lawmakers urged the federal government to adopt a policy of one-factory-per-local government area and set up an Unemployment Support Fund where everyone would contribute.
The senators said the current spate of insecurity faced by the country was borne out of widespread unemployment and long neglect of the teeming youths saying a condition to change Nigeria’s narrative, is that the federal government must heed their advice.
In conclusion, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, directed the Clerk to take note of the resolutions for onward transmission to the Executive.
