A thief who went on an operation alongside two others in a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the Somolu area of Lagos has been set ablaze.

Punch reports that three-man gang burgled the church on Olorunkemi Street, Bariga and were making away with stolen items including musical instruments when they were intercepted and stopped in their tracks by members of the community.

In the ensuing confrontation, they fled the scene while two escaped unhurt, one was unlucky as the mob caught up with him and set him ablaze, the paper wrote.

It said, as of the time of publication, the unlucky thief was in critical condition in the hospital where he was rushed to after the police were alerted to the mob attack.

Quoting an eyewitness, Punchng.com wrote, “I later learnt that he was a member of a three-man gang which had gone to steal some musical instruments from an RCCG church on Olorunkemi Street, and while they were carting away the items, some guys ran after them. Two of them ran away, while the third suspect withstood the mob because he probably had a charm on him. At first, people were afraid to get close to him. When they eventually caught him, they descended on him. Before the police and the Lagos State Ambulance Service arrived, he had been set ablaze.”
