Hausa actress who escaped from prison after death sentence recaptured

Convicted Hausa actress Rabi Ismail, who escaped from Hadejia Prison where she was on death row about six years ago, has been recaptured.

The Kannywood actress was found guilty of killing her boyfriend, Auwalu Ibrahim, in 2002 in Kano, in order to acquire his property.

She was sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano on January 5, 2005.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court in July 2011, upheld the sentence of the lower courts.

But the 46-year-old actress, who was initially held in Kaduna Central prison escaped from Hadejia prison six years ago where she was transferred to.

According to the spokesman of the Prison Service, Francis Enobore, Rabi was recaptured by the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of men of the State Security Service.

The court had found her guilty of drugging and drowning Ibrahim after luring him to Tiga Dam, where she poisoned him with chocolate and pushed him into the dam.
