A celestial church pastor was yesterday arraigned on charges of rape and stealing in Lagos.
23-year-old Adewale Adeleke (not the one pictured in the act) was arraigned in Yaba Magistrates’ Court about three weeks after he allegedly lured a lady who sought for spiritual assistance from him to a hotel, raped her and stole her money.

The suspect lives at No. 2. Ajibola Street, Agbado Ijaiye, and according to the prosecutor committed the criminal acts on July 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the premises of Original Inn Hotel, Ebute Meta, Lagos State.

Takim said the accused approached his victim claiming to be spiritually informed about her problems and that he had solutions to them. He also offered his service as a ‘prayer warrior’.
He added that the complainant met him at the hotel as arranged and he collected her mobile phone and N13, 000 as mobilisation fees.

“Adeleke collected her phones and N13, 000 and later forced her to strip naked as a prerequisite for her prayer to be answered.

“He, thereafter unlawfully assaulted her and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,’’ Takin said.

He stated that the offences contravened Sections 258, 285, 312 and 378 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 258 prescribed life imprisonment for any man who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman or girl, without her consent.

Adewale, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ariike Oshibayo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till August 16 for further hearing.
