Picture of Olu-Ibukun Koye, the Nigerian diplomat working for ECOWAS who contracted Ebola Virus Disease from Patrick Sawyer and was quarantined but fled the Isolation Centre at Yaba, has gone viral.
Koye(pictured) escaped to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital where he was treated in a hotel by the medical director of Samsteel Clinic, Dr. Ike Sam Enemuo, and regained his health.
However, Dr. Enemuo was not lucky, he came down with the disease and subsequently died. The deceased’s wife who is also a medical doctor contracted the disease from her husband after he fell sick.
She is currently quarantined at the Yaba Mainland Hospital in Lagos after she requested to be relocated to Lagos.
Yesterday, the Rivers State Government announced that so far three more people contracted the disease, and are currently at quarantine centre at Oduoha, Emohua Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker, made this known on Sunday to journalists. He said those quarantined were a doctor, a pharmacist and a woman who came into contact with Dr. Enemuo.
The pharmacist and the doctor are members of staff of Sam Steel Hospital while the nurse worked at the Good Heart Hospital where Enemuo died.
