Musician turned activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, better known as Charlyboy, apologised to Senator Bukola Saraki after his claim that the Senate President was attacked at Lafiagi in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State in a tweet turned out to be false.
In the tweet accompanied by pictures of Saraki in shirt and jeans sitting on the floor, dusting up his cloth or showing the people around him some dirty pebbles., Charlyboy wrote: “E never start. Saraki after he escaped the mob attack by people of Lafiagi in his own state. May all those who have conspired to render us hopelessness, penniless, and frustrated. May nemesis catch up with them.”
The maverick ex-musician, however, found himself in an embarrassing situation after Saraki via his twitter handle set the record straight saying the photos were actually those of the Senate President’s 2012 visit to Ogoniland in Rivers State.
With his tail between his legs, Charlyboy again took to his verified Twitter handle, Charlyboyofficial, to bring down the post and immediately apologised: “APOLOGY TO SENATE PRESIDENT SARAKI. My earlier post on Senate President was incorrect. I agree i was in a hurry to post before verifying the veracity of the post. I apologize for the avoidable error.”
While accepting his apology, Saraki derided Charlyboy writing: “I appreciate your coming forward to admit that your post against me was ill-conceived. It takes a lot to do that. I agree that we all see things from our respective lenses, but without disregard to what is permissible by an average mind. It is therefore imperative that we observe circumspection at all times so we don’t have to say the avoidable ‘sorry.’”
