The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign after Information Minister, Lai Mohammed admitted he(Buhari) is not in possession of his certificate.
The presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, is contesting the declaration of Buhari by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, as winner of the election at the tribunal on slew of grounds including failure to prove that he obtained First Leaving and O/level certificates by attaching them.
In an interview with Channels Television, Muhammed said Buhari left school 53 years ago and pleaded that he (Buhari) should be pardoned for allegedly misplacing his certificates.
The PDP, has however, urged the president to resign on the strength of his minister’s statement ahead of the tribunal judgement scheduled to be delivered any time this week.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the party National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said: “President Buhari should save the judiciary and the nation further troubles by immediately throwing in the towel and vacating the presidential seat following the official admission that he (Buhari) does not possess a WAEC certificate, contrary to his claims and disposition before the law.
“Our party mocks the Buhari presidency for pushing out the video wherein the minister pleaded with Nigerians to pardon President Buhari over his false WAEC certificate claims.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information said the minister granted the interview as far back as 2015.
