Pastor arraigned for defrauding church member of N59.7m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Prophet Cletus Ilongwo, the Presiding Pastor of the Power of the Holy Ghost Evangelical Ministry for allegedly defrauding his church member of N59.7m.

Prior to Ilongwo’s arraignment before a Lagos Special Offences Court, he was arrested inside his church located at Abule-Ado area of the state on Saturday following allegation of fraud levelled against him by his victim.

Early this year, the police and the EFCC arrested the controversial pastor on account of an allegation by a former member of the church that he(Ilongwo) defrauded him(victim) of N85m, which led to the loss of his job in one of the first generation banks in the country.
Ilongwo allegedly jumped bail and left his surety to languish in the EFCC detention, while efforts to re-arrest him proved abortive.

Yesterday, the accused pleaded not guilty to the 11 counts charge bordering on fraud preferred against him.

The presiding judge, Justice Sherifat Solebo, adjourned the matter till November 14 and 19, respectively for hearing of the bail application and commencement of trial.
