PANIC GRIPS OAU AS STUDENT WHO HAD PRIMARY CONTACT WITH EBOLA VICTIM FALLS SICK

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, were yesterday extremely distressed as a female student who had primary contact with an Ebola victim in Port Harcourt fell seriously sick.

Reports have it that the undergraduate was on admission at the university’s teaching hospital after she fell ill. She showed no sign of improvement, and rather was manifesting signs of victim of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

The news of her deteriorating health condition, which spread like wild fire yesterday disrupted academic activities as students and workers became jittery to the point that the campus was literally shut down.

However, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju has dispelled the rumoured about the outbreak of EVD in the university.

He explained that the female student was discovered to have had primary contact with an EVD victim in Port Harcourt, stressing that she fell sick when she arrived the university and was rushed to OAUTHC.

According to him, the student had been evacuated to Lagos, where she would undergo thorough screening to verify if she had actually contracted the disease or not.
