The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun is said to be a partaker in the move by Ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida to prevent the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and other opponent of the tenure elongation had impressed it on the proponent that the party will bring trouble on itself if congress is not held and its candidates emerged through primaries conducted by a caretaker committee.
“These cases before the primaries may linger beyond our primaries.
“Once a case is in a court, it is no longer an internal affair of the party. The outcome of the cases in court could affect all our candidates for 2019 poll including the presidential candidate.
“We should abide by Article 13 of the APC Constitution by holding congresses and the National Convention of the party. Any introduction of extraneous clause to our constitution can affect our electoral fortunes,” the Vice-President was quoted to have said at a meeting of the party by The Nation.
Source familiar with hushed comments on the controversy surrounding the tenure extension, told OrijoReporter that some of its proponent like Oyegun were still holding the line, alleging that they were working in cahoots with Obasanjo and IBB to thwart Buhari’s reelection.
Justifying his claim, source said, With the exit of Atiku, Saraki, is the only one left to stop Buhari and you have to remember, Obasanjo once called him: MY SON.
“Considering the number of times Saraki had hoodwinked the Party and stood in the President’s way in Congress, only a fool will believe there is any love between them.
“And how many people remember that Oyegun was Obasanjo’s well beloved federal permanent secretary at one time, and that Babangida helped him to become old Bendel State Governor.”
The source also suggested that Obasanjo may have influenced the international community to buy into their plan urging Buhari not to attend the Commonwealth meeting but instead send a representative.
His word, “Do we know if the Oyinbos too are not in this plot to get him away with so-called Obasanjo international connections? Let a trusted Minister hold the fort for him in London.”
