Osaze Odemwingie’s hotel’s manager killed in Edo cult war

Osato Okunkpolo, the manager of ex-Super Eagle star, Osaze Odemwingie’s hotel, located at Erediauwa Street off Upper Sakponba road in Benin-city has been killed.

Okunkpolo’s widow is Anita, a journalist with a local tabloid in the Edo State capital. The deceased was murdered on Sunday night with circumstances surrounding his killing dogged by controversy.

An account of it was that he was shot dead at 9.00pm by armed robbers who broke into the hotel. However, a contradictory account given by the police has it that late Okunkpolo was a victim of a stray bullet during a shoot-out between two rival cult groups.

“The incident is true. It is also true that a murder happened at Odemwingie’s hotel on the 17th of February, 2019. The incident was between two secret cults- The Aye and Eiye cult groups.

“It was not an armed robbery incident. The corpse has been deposited at the Bénin Central hospital mortuary. Our detectives are still investigating the incident,” Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor told newsmen.
