THE Olofin of Ado-Odo, Oba Lateef Akanni Adeniran, on Monday, was said to have been beaten up by some hoodlums suspected to be loyalists of his rival, over chieftaincy tussle rocking the town.
It will be recalled that no fewer than 10 lives had been lost over the crisis.
The traditional ruler, despite a Supreme Court judgment validating his appointment three years ago, had been having a running battle with some interest groups in the town.
It was gathered that the angry mob waylaid the Sport Utility Vehicle of the traditional ruler, who was reported to have been returning from a neighbouring town, Ilaro in Ogun State.
The vehicle was said to have been flagged down by the angry youth, while the unsuspecting traditional ruler reportedly alighted from it to listen to their grievances.
It was further gathered that the action of the angry mob could not be unconnected to an alleged nonchalant attitude of the traditional ruler towards an accident victim who was reported to have been hit by one of his vehicles.
Pandemonium broke out when the rioters stormed the palace, unleashed terror on people and destroyed property.
“It was on his way from Ilaro that some of the rioters saw him and beat him up before they tore his garment. He luckily escaped death by whiskers,” a source said.
The source also confirmed that the traditional ruler had been hospitalized, following degree of injuries he sustained.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command was on top of the situation.
