The Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) on Thursday shut down an illegal university, World Mission University (West Africa) at Abraka in Delta State.
A team made up of officials of NUC, Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and security operatives stormed World Mission University (West Africa) located along the Old Sapele road Abraka, shut the illegal institution, and arrested its operators.
Operators of the illegal university had claimed that the institution was an American university’s affiliated satellite campus.
The school runs degree, 2-year diploma and 6-month certificate programmes in Electrical Engineering, Nursing, Public health, Civil, Mechanical, Political Science, Management and Administration, Mass Communication, Industrial Safety, Web designing, Computer networking, Computer engineering, Vocational studies and has 84 students.
It was said that World Mission University was preparing for graduation ceremony for some of the students when the bubble burst.

Defending the school activities before her arrest, the coordinator, Mrs. Lucky, said that the university was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, and was making moves to get NUC’s approval.
She disclosed that the institution started in 2010 in Benin Edo state as a mobile scholarship programme.
The head of legal department of NUC, Moses Awe, who led the operation explained that World Mission University came to the commission’s knowledge about six months back when a student of the school inquired about its legality from the commission.
He dismissed claims that the institution was affiliated to a foreign school.
