Co-Chairman of Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, a political movement group, Chief Olisa Agbakoba, has revealed that not less than seven governors elected under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC, will defect from the party to the opposition this week.
The Human Rights Activist cum lawyer, who is at the forefront of opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection bid, made this disclosure in an interview with Vanguard against the backdrop of defection of13 senators and 37 House of Representatives members elected under the umbrella of All Progressive Congress to the opposition.
“What you are seeing of late is the beginning of the tsunami. Parliamentarians have moved; next week, you will see governors moving, at least seven. I don’t need to name names but if you are following the Nigerian political development, you will know the likely states where this will happen. And then, as we go on to parties’ conventions and all of that, I think the opposition is strong on ground,” he told the paper.
Meanwhile Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State may return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between now and Monday, Daily Trust reported citing a reliable source privy to the Governor’s planned defection.
The paper said it gathered from the source that Tambuwal will decamp to PDP with 23 members of the House of Assembly and some leaders of APC in the state.
