The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was on Friday at the final leg of the continent’s prestigious music award, AFRIMA, booed and heckled while delivering his welcome address.
The award ceremony was held at the Convention Centre at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to report, as soon as Mohammed was announced by the compere to come on stage to deliver the welcome address, shout of ‘lie, lie, lie’ rent the air and continued throughout his delivery of the speech wherein he announced plans by government to ensure that musical works are paid for, and no longer used free of charge.
Meanwhile some of the winners of the prestigious award include, Burna Boy who carted home the Artiste of the year and Best Male Artiste in West Africa, while Tiwa Savage won Best Female Artiste in West Africa.
Nigerian newcomer, Joe Boy won Best Artiste in African pop. Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy won in the “Best Artiste in African Reggae, Ragga or Dancehall” category.
Khaligraph Jones of Kenya won Best Male Artiste in East Africa, while Nikita Kering of Kenya won Best Female Artiste for the region.
For the Central African region, Cameroon’s Salatiel and Shan’L of Gabon won best male and female, respectively.
