The Lagos State Government has turned up the heat on residents in the state saying they have to pay money to the government before sinking boreholes.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, in a report by NAN said Lagosians planning to sink boreholes would have to obtain registration permit.

Adejare explained that the permits would attract charges, adding that the move was to minimise underground water pollution and curtail water-borne diseases.
“The essence of obtaining permit is to create a database of boreholes and ascertain the quality of water being consumed by Lagosians.
”The government has not introduced charges for consumption of water from boreholes, neither has it criminalised the sinking of boreholes,” the Commissioner was quoted as saying by NAN.
