The onus to preside over the session on Monday fell on Hon. Eshinloku after the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, sent words that he had an official assignment to attend hence would not be able to preside over the sitting.
When the time for the sitting to commence came up and all support staff of the Assembly were ready for plenary sitting to commence nearly all the lawmakers were absent at the chamber, OrijoReporter was told.
It was said that due to lack of attendance, which led to the inability to form a quorum, the sitting was call off.
“Most of the lawmakers were in their prior offices but when information got to them that Speaker was not going to be at the sitting they disappeared into thin air,” sources said.
OrijoReporter gathered that not few lawmakers are not well disposed to the Deputy Speaker. Their grouse against him, according to insiders, was his alleged disloyalty to the leadership of the House and the entire House.
It was also alleged that Hon. Sanni-Eshinlokun, who was one of the eight lawmakers that contested for the office of Speaker but lost to Hon. Obasa unlike others has not displayed sportsmanship in defeat.
Rather he allegedly has been backstabbing and employing petty politics to unseat the Speaker.
“Imagine the Deputy Speaker once represented the House at an event which took place at the Chinese Embassy without the knowledge and approval of the Speaker,” a lawmaker who craved anonymity told us.
