LAGBUS driver in court, charged with causing injury to pedestrian in hit-and run incident

A LAGBUS driver, Omoniyi Alugo, on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court over allegation of causing a 56-year-old woman, Olushola Adewuye, internal injury after he allegedly struck her with his bus while she was standing beside the road in a hit-and-run horror crash.

45 year-old Alugo, who was accused of refusing to stop after hitting his victim is facing a three-count charge of reckless driving, causing injury and hit and run.

The court heard from the police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijiale court that the accused, on Aug. 31, at about 6:30p.m., along Ebute Ero Road, Lagos Island, drove the vehicle recklessly, and caused Adewuye internal injury.

Osijale said that the offences contravened Sections 19, (1) 26 and 26 (9) of Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.

The Magistrate, Mrs Memunat Folami, granted the accused N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Folami adjourned the case till Dec. 1 for trial.
