The housemaid(pictured) who kidnapped three siblings, Aderomola (11 months), Adedamola (4 years) and 6-year-old Demola Orekoya in Surulere area of Lagos State was on Wednesday evening arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after she released her victims after collecting ransom.
Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Kayode Aderanti, made this known on Thursday while he was a guest on Sun Rise, a talk-show programme on Channels Television.
Aderanti said the suspect was arrested late yesterday and is under interrogation.
The police say contrary to what she told her employer and the OLX portal, her real name is Funmilayo Adeyemi and she hails from Osun State, and not Oyo State.
According to Police sources, she is not new in the kidnapped business, she had kidnapped two siblings, Raphael and Michael Esharegaran from their parents home in Magodo, Lagos in December, 2014. The boys were reunited with their parents after N2.5million ransom was paid.
In a related development, Online trading platform, OLX has reacted to the abduction of the Orekoyas by Funmilayo who was employed after she responded to an advert placed on the website.
In a statement posted on the online marketplace, its Country Manager, Lola Masha denied any complicity in the abduction.
The statement reads, “OLX is an online classified site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade.
“We take steps to moderate and review all adverts, but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers.
“We sincerely hope that the three kids are returned safely to their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we will provide all help within our capacity to facilitate the quick reunion of the children with their family.
“We continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents.
“We also need our users to help us kick out bad players and ask them to report any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action.”
It would be recalled that eight days after the children’s abduction, the Orekoyas on Tuesday evening regained their freedom and reunited with their family after ransom was paid on them.
Reports have it that they were found naked in a bag dumped by the kidnappers in an uncompleted building at Shasha in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
According to the father of the children’s mother, Senior Apostle Abraham Adekunle, the kidnappers sent an account number to the family to pay the ransom, and after it was paid they freed the children.
He said, “Yesterday (Tuesday), they called us and said we should send the money to them. They sent their account number to us. Immediately they collected the money, they called us and said they had dropped the children at Egbeda.”
Mother of the children, Mrs. Bisi Orekoya has expressed her gratitude to members of the public, her relations and friends who stood by the family during the difficult time on her facebook account.
Her post, ” We give God all the Glory. Our Orekoya missing Kids have been found. Thank you so much everyone for ur(sic) prayers and moral and Financial support all along. The list is endless, of awesome mothers, sisters, business partners, father’s and even kids too. You’ve been amazing! May God grant all your heart desires too. Much love always.”
