The face of Tosin Otaiku (pictured), a graduate of Tai Solarin University of Education never betrayed any sad emotion even his general attitude. The 33-year-old relished the on-going World Cup in Brazil and described it in pidgin as an event full of surprises on his facebook page on June 18.
His post: ” Na watin dey sup 4 dis world-cup, d mythy 1’s are just falling apart. Abi some country carry juju cum Brazil cos mi no undastand as tinz dey be 4 here. Eagles b warned ur booths must b weLl tied if u must scale 2ru d group stage.”
But at the weekend when his fiancee, Toyin Olaogun (pictured right), also an alumna of Tai Solarin University of Education, insisted on parting ways with him, Tosin who hailed from Odogbolu brought out a knife and stabbed himself to death.
Sources said some weeks back, Toyin had told the deceased that she was no longer interested in the relationship but the latter called for a meeting and the two of them met inside a shop at Safari junction in Onikolobo to settle their differences.
But when Toyin maintained her stance, he reportedly brought out a knife which forced her to storm out of the shop thinking she was the target.
After stabbing himself, he was rushed to Mercy Hospital, Panseke where he was later referred to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta but he died on the way to the hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the police were still holding Toyin until a postmortem examination is carried out on the deceased.
Adejobi explained that the command was still examining the statements by the suspects and eyewitnesses.
He said: “The lady is still with us, she is still our suspect for now until we carried out a proper investigation on the corpse. We need some time to study the statements but the expert’s opinion is to carry out a postmortem on the body.”
