Housemaid docked over alleged N3m theft

A 28 year old housemaid, Anna Payaro, who allegedly stole cash sum, and property worth N3,142,500, from her employer was on Monday docked before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court.

The defendant, and others who are still at large conspired to committee the alleged offences.

Payaro, is facing a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing preferred against her.

The prosecutor Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on May 27, 2016, at about 3.p.m, at Goshen estate, Lekkiz- in Eti-Osa local government area Lagos.

He said that defendant broke into the house of one Olatunde Adepoju and stole the following cash sums, $1,000 Dollars, £500 and N300,000‎ cash.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant stole properties worth N2.5million, from her employer.

According to the prosecutor the offences committed is punishable under sections 409, 305 (a) (b) and 285 (10), of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.

Earlier when the charge was read to the defendant, she pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled ‎ against her

However, Magistrate A. T Omoyele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like, she said that sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment.

The magistrate adjourned the case to July 4, for mention.
