The attention of the promoters of the proposed Sports University of Nigeria has been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard newspaper of Thursday 7th January 2016 concerning the proposed university.
A statement signed by Hon Ned Munir Nwoko who is spearheading the proposed university said, “we wish to state clearly that while the promoters have indeed approached the National Universities Commission for guidance on the way forward for the proposed university, it is as yet only a proposed university.
“For the avoidance of doubt, details of this visit were published in the Monday Bulletin of the Commission after the informal visit and on the website of the Commission at www.nuc.edu.ng.
“The promoters are perfectly aware that this visit does not in any way mean that a license has been granted and regrets any embarrassment that the publication may have caused the NUC.”
The proposed sports University is located at Idumuje-Ugboko, in Delta State and as soon as it is licensed by the National Universities Commission, it will train professionals in sports, sport management and other disciplines.
The focus is to equip professional sportsmen and women with adequate training to excel in sports and earn additional qualifications that would enable them to face the challenges of life and contribute positively to national development.
