Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has threatened to institute legal actions against landlords in the state whose houses have no toilet facilities.

Gov. Fayose made the threat on Friday during a live television and radio programme, ‘Meet your governor’, a programme he features on every month in Ado-Ekiti to give his stewardship.

The governor expressed serious concern about the prevalent situation in which most rented apartments lack toilet facilities, and people engage in open defecation, saying any landlord who by the end of February has not made amend would face prosecution.

Gov. Fayose added that tenants of such houses where there are no adequate provision for toilet facilities would equally be prosecuted.

“If by the end of February 2015, we still have landlords who built or live in houses without toilet facilities, such landlords will be apprehended and be made to face prosecution under the state’s environmental law.

“I also want to add that tenants who rented such houses stand the risk of facing similar penalty with their landlords,” he said.
