In an overt attempt to whittle down the influence of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has signed the Kano Emirs Appointment and Deposition Amendment Bill, 2019, into law.
The law has now broken the state into five emirates including Kano Emirate, Bichi Emirate, Rano Emirate, Gaya Emirate and Karaye Emirate with each having its independence while all are under the state government’s supervision.
Expediently passed into law by the State House of Assembly and with the speed of light signed by Ganduje, the forty four local government areas of the state hitherto under Sanusi(Kano Emir) have been reduced to ten with the remaining shared among the newly created emirate.
The four proposed emirates are presently being headed by district heads and, as they have now been upgraded, will have emirs as heads.
It will be recalled that Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission are investigating the funds appropriated for the Kano Emirate with Sanusi as the anti-graft’s target.
