The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, says marketers are responsible for the ongoing fuel scarcity tracing the genesis of the crisis to rumour of planned fuel price hike by the federal government.

The corporation’s GMD, Maikanti Baru, disclosed this on Thursday via a statement he released to bring Nigerians up to speed with government’s efforts to solve the lingering crisis.
Baru said NNPC had increased petrol supply across the country from about 30 million litres to 80 million litres per day adding that its efforts were being undermined by marketers who he said were hoarding the products.
He explained that the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, during an unscheduled visit, forced some filling stations hoarding petrol in Lagos, to dispense the product.
The statement reads in part, “But we swiftly swung into action by doubling our supply nationwide. At the time the rumour started, we had about 30 day sufficiency. The normal daily supply to the nation is 700 trucks, equaling about 27 million to 30 million litres per day.”
