A 19-year-old girl yesterday told a Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Wuse, Abuja that her Facebook friend invited her to Abuja and lured her into prostitution.

The girl, of no fixed address was arraigned before the court for stealing six hand bags, three cell phones and N40,000, the allegations she pleaded guilty to.

She further told the court that she committed the offence because she was trying to gather money to go back to her state to register for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and pleaded with the court to be merciful to her.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Grace Adebayo, sentenced her to three months imprisonment, having pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

The magistrate however gave her an option to pay N40,000 as fine and advised her to change her ways.
She also ordered that the recovered items be returned to the owner.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. UmaruAngo, told the court that on March 24, at about 9:30 a.m., two complainants both of Masallachi Road, beside Redeem Church Jabi, Abuja, lodged a report against her at the Wuse Police Station.
Ango said during investigation, the items were recovered from her.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
