A gang of fraudsters who are notorious for fleecing unsuspecting Nigerians out of their hard-earned money using Akwa-Ibom governor’s name, Godswill Akpabio have been caught.
Reports have it that the three-man gang goes from one hotel to another in search of victims. Sources said that the gang leader, Mfon Charles, a 33-year old man claims to be working with Sahara Energy, while the two others, A. O Opeolu and Emeka Collins(all pictured) claim to be an estate agent and lawyer respectively.
The conmen, we gathered, met their Waterloo when they attempted to dupe a Lagos based hotelier whom they allegedly approached and asked to help him sell one of his properties, which he put up for sale at N300 million.
As we heard, they told the hotelier that Akpabio would like to buy the property at the fixed price but that they will have the ten percent. The gang lured the hotelier to part with the percentage after claiming the money had been transferred by the governor.
However, when the hotelier ran a background checks on them, he found out that they were 419. He promptly alerted the DPO of police at Area F, Ikeja, and they were apprehended.
Last week they appeared in court, and were remanded in Kirikiri Prisons by the judge following the adjournment of the case.
