At least five people were killed on Monday in clashes between the Muslim and Christian in Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Fighting broke out, sparked off by a dispute when Christian youths allegedly beat up female adherents for dating Muslim men, a resident told our correspondent.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai has condemned the attack via a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan.

The statement reads: “The government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take inventory of damages and provide relief materials with immediate effect.

“Security forces have been deployed to contain the situation, protect lives and properties and to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

“The government urges all citizens and communities to reject violence and division, and uphold their neighbours in peace and harmony.”

Earlier on Monday, Sen. Shehu Sani, in his tweeter handle @ShehuSani, wrote “I received a distress call from Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru LG about an outbreak of violence.I have promptly alerted the relevant security agencies concerned. I appeal for peace.”
