Emotions are running high in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) following the sack of 60 female workers mostly widows by the Executive Secretary, Alhaja Funmilayo Mohammed.
The 60 workers worked as street sweepers and were sent packing on the premise of agedness by Alhaja Mohammed.
Sentiment in the council is generally against the reason advanced by the executive secretary (pictured) for the sack of the street sweepers with many describing the 48-year-old local government boss as lacking warmth.
“It is unfortunate these women who are breadwinners of their various families are sacked because they were perceived as being too old and not because they were not devoted to their works.
“This is sheer wickedness and outright evil. And it is not expected from a woman,” a senior staff of the council told OrijoReporter on condition of anonymity.
It would be recalled that in 2011, Alhaja Funmilayo Mohammed who was then the vice chairman of Apapa/Iganmu LCDA, was suspended by the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, following her controversial emergence as the LCDA’s chairman, after the legislative arm, which she equally led removed the chairman.
