Fan Dies While Watching League Match in Benue

A football fan on Wednesday slumped to death while watching a Glo Premier League match involving Lobi Stars and Enugu Rangers at Aper Aku Stadium in Markudi, the Benue State capital.

The match that ended 3-1 in favour of the host, Lobi Stars, and Kingsley Eduwo scored a hat trick, was overshadowed by the death of a supporter at the stadium.

A fan, Toryina Iorkyaa fondly called TY, who closely witnessed the incident, told Goal that the deceased was sitting in his front of him when he slumped, and died before medical personnel rushed him out of the stadium.

“The guy (dead fan) was sitting in front of me. He just fell down all of a sudden and we did everything we ought to help him come back but he didn’t.

“We later alerted the medic team at the stadium and he was carried to the Hospital. But from my confirmation this morning. He had died even before he was moved out of the stadium,” TY told Goal.
