The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting for the month of June has been put in abeyance indefinitely.
The meeting has been dogged by controversy following claims by the states that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) NNPC was shortchanging them insisting on the corporation to increase their allocation for June by N20bn. The meeting which ended in deadlock on two occasions suffered the same fate for the third time on Thursday.
Talking to newsmen after yesterday’s meeting, the chairman forum of Finance Commissioners, Mr. Mahmood Yunusa said, “It is about the system and the process, and we are working on it. It is no longer a joking matter, it has gone to the highest level. Mr President will sit down; he is highly interested in this; he is taking his time to ensure that the right thing is done.”
The impasse has crippled states and federal authorities from paying civil servants June salaries.
